Alien: Isolation Review

February 10, 2015 Leave a comment

In space no one can hear you scream.

It’s been awhile since that phrase actually felt relevant. I have to admit that the Alien franchise (which I’ve been a huge fan of) has been down in the dumps since James Cameron’s action packed masterpiece Aliens. Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection? Those are two flops I choose to forget ever existed. Video games haven’t been that much different. Most of the games that have been released were mediocre at best. I had faith in Aliens: Colonial Marines would bring the franchise back to relevancy only to be let down tremendously once again. Now when I heard that Sega and Creative Assembly were working on a new Alien game I had my doubts and kept my expectations extremely low. Then I saw the game which featured a dramatic change from straight up action to survival horror and it completely won me over. Alien: Isolation is awesome.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse Review

September 4, 2013 Leave a comment

Just like DuckTales on the NES, I also missed out on playing the original Castle of Illusion on the Sega Genesis. Maybe it was my anti-Disney phase that was playing out at the time. Yes, I thought I was too old for the fantasy, but these days my love for Disney has grown exponentially with a newfound affection for the movies, theme parks, and video games showing that I’ll never outgrow the house with the mouse. With that said I’m currently enjoying the remake of DuckTales, and soon I’ll once again reintroduce myself to the magical world of the PS2 classic Kingdom Hearts. Now I’m playing Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse for the first time, and I must say that this remake is a magical experience.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Review

Sega mascots…start your engines! Sonic and the gang are back again with more racing madness. However these new races are no longer restricted to land. These races now take to the seas and into the air raising a whole new challenge as well as bringing in a much needed change of atmosphere. This is no longer just racing. This is racing…transformed and it’s a blast as I make my way to the finish. I played the heck out of the original game as I drifted through the turns and used a few well placed weapons on the competition as I took the checkered flag. This new Sega racer now takes gaming to the next level and I can’t get enough of all the fun.

Binary Domain Review

July 27, 2012 1 comment

I’ve got plenty of games where I shoot endless human soldiers as well as undead zombies. Sega on the other hand had another idea. Robots. They did it with Vanquish a couple of years ago and it was brilliant. Besides, there’s not enough games these days where your shooting mechanical robots. Oil and shrapnel instead of blood. Tons of bullets and plenty of “bro” moments. Binary Domain has it all and it’s kick ass fun.

E3 2012: The “Maybe” Games

With all the E3 hype behind us now, and my winners and losers picks done, I wanted to concentrate on the other games that caught my attention. Now I can’t call any of these games definite buys just yet, but they’re clearly on my radar which could be both a good or maybe even a bad sign. Good news is that I have plenty of time to keep an eye on these titles before making a commitment. Looks like another busy end of the year. My wallet is ready. Hopefully these games will be as well.
